Indigo, which was used as medicinal plants in ancient time, has been used for dying fabric over 1200 years. In the 1600th century, it is said that indigo dyed items were found all over Japan. And has kicked off various projects from their passion to revitalize a traditional indigo dying in modern life. In addition to creating traditional indigo dyed items such as tenugui (cotton cloth) and clothing, and explores more opportunities for the indigo dying through collaboration with many artists and creators from the pure love for indigo.
Tenugui (Ise Cotton Towel)
Tenugui is Japanese traditional hand towels made of cotton. These tenugui made by "and" use cotton from Ise widely known to have Ise Shrine, the head of all shinto shrines in Japan. Only one company remains in operation of Ise Cotton. They follow an original traditional method of weaving that has been passed down, which makes Ise Cotton special.
Ise Cotton is known for better absorbent and quicker dry. The more you use it the more you comfortable with using it as Tenugui threads gradually go back to original threads as you wash it.
Yukatabira (bath robe/yukata)
"Yukatabira" is a traditional bathrobe worn during or after bath over 1000 years. You can wear it as a bathrobe or wear it as yukata or any ways that you want.
An entire process of making this yukatabira was taken care of by Japanese artisans.
It is made of cotton from Ise, a sacred place in Japan due to Ise Shrine, the head of all shinto shrines in Japan. Only one company remains in operation of producing Ise Cotton by following an original traditional method of weaving, and it makes Ise Cotton special. The cotton was hand indigo dyed in Kyoto and sewed at a special factory in Hiroshima that is recognized as making Japanese traditional crafts.
